    Greetings Desterians!

    Boy have we got changes for you today. Over the last month, the Staff and Management Teams have been working tirelessly to modernize the server and update what has been left untouched for far too long. With today’s post I’m excited to announce that as of the time of this post being released, we will be releasing a completely re-written version of the rules, changes to the Staff Team, a new Staff wave, changes to the Forums, and much more! Rather than keeping you waiting, let’s get right into it.

    Rules Rewritten
    We’ve completely re-written the rules from the ground up! We’ve removed old and outdated rules. Added new rules. Rephrased existing rules so that they’re more clear. Finally, we’ve condensed a handful of official documentation threads that previously were scattered around the forums to now be centralized into one main rules post. You shouldn’t have to go hunting around the forums for tons of official threads to understand all the rules now, it’ll all be in one place. Remember, these new rules will be taking effect as of the time of this thread's being posted. So, as of the first day of June, these regulations will be live! Go read the new rules so you know what we’ve changed!

    Staff Team Restructure
    For too long the Staff Team has been plagued by communication and structural issues. Since the beginning of time players haven’t understood what ranks they need for what jobs, and Staff Members haven’t felt there’s a clairvoyant enough chain of command stemming from Helper to Admin that allows them to effectively convey their thoughts, opinions, and needs. Earlier this month we put our sights on tackling that problem. I’m excited to announce that we’ve completely restructured the Staff Team from the bottom up. Previously, the ranks progressed along a linear hierarchy with rather abstract reasonings for promotions from one tier into another. The progression was:

    Helper > Mentor > Moderator > Admininstrator

    Going forwards we’ve overhauled this system. The new progression with be thus:

    Recruit > Helper > Mentor, Moderator > Admininstrator

    To start, we’ve implemented a Recruit rank beneath Helper. Recruit will be the rank Helper was always meant to be. It’s a trial position for new candidates who want to give being a Staff Member a shot, but that don’t really want to be committed for anything long term. They’ll be assigned largely the same permissions as Helper, but whether or not they remain on the team for more than a month or two is determined by their performance. If they show proficiency, they’ll be promoted to Helper.

    Helper is a more permanent version of Recruit. They have largely the same commands, but they’ll be more experienced and a permanent member of the team. This is no longer a trial rank. Above Helper, in the tier three section, we’ve completed redefined the Mentor and Moderator ranks! In the new system, Helpers that are up for promotion will get to choose one of the two ranks. Each will have an equivalent chance of being promoted up to Admin from where they choose to go, but they will be responsible for different things as a tier three Staff Member.

    Mentors will be responsible for scouting new recruits, overseeing Staff Applicants, assessing their behavior and performance, and assisting Management with recruiting applicants. They will also be assisting Management with orienting the new recruits, helping usher them into their new positions, and guiding them as they begin their journeys on the Staff Team. The Mentor rank will now be what it was always labeled as - a Mentor for other newer Staff Members. This team will be replacing the ‘Training Team’, which will as of the time of this post have been disbanded.

    Moderators, by contrast, will be taking over the responsibilities of the Reviewer Team. On most all other servers Moderators handle rule breakers and hackers. Desteria for some reason has never adopted that mindset, but we’re looking to now. Instead of joining the Reviewer Team, if a Helper is interested in dealing with the rules and rule breakers, they’ll have the opportunity to join the Moderator Team once they come up for promotion. Assuming they’re able to demonstrate adequate knowledge of hacked clients and how they function, they’ll gain the ability to perform all duties the Reviewer Team currently handles. As was mentioned above, this team will take the place of the Reviewer Team which will as of the time of this post have been dissolved.

    Finally, we have the Administrator rank. Since the beginning of time this rank has been viewed as a glorified Moderator. You gain very little, and the position as a whole has been lackluster. This is all changing. With today’s changes, Administrator has been rebuilt from the ground up to be an in-game mini-Manager. They will no longer be allowed to play the factions game actively, but instead, they will be able to help you with illegal claims. They will help you tackle illegal defenses, illegal cannons, as well as giving you offline teleports; just about anything you need can be handled by in-game Admins. Finally, they’ll be members of both Mentor and Moderator teams, and they’ll be a part of Management. More than ever before these Staffers will be prepared to assist you in most any way you may require, and, if what you need is beyond them? They’ll have an easier time than ever of getting the attention of someone who can assist you.

    Staff Wave
    In order for the team to evolve alongside the changes we’ve made to the Staff ranks we’ve had to do some rank-shuffling of the members of the team as it currently stands. I’m quite pleased to present to you the new Staff Team!

    Recruits:
    @iNutella // Player > Tier One

    Helpers:
    @bugzigus // Tier Two > Tier Two
    @M9 // Tier One > Tier Two
    @TasteMehBlade // Tier One > Tier Two
    @Wavy // Tier One > Tier Two

    Mentors:
    @Zack // Tier One > Tier Three
    @JamesDaKill // Tier Three > Tier Three

    Moderators:
    @xTNAx02 // Tier Three > Tier Three
    @WuYi // Tier Two > Tier Three
    @Xotha // Tier Two > Tier Three

    Administrators:
    @Cansky // Tier Four > Tier Four
    @Emmymerh // Tier Three > Tier Four

    Firstly, congratulations to @iNutella to be the first ever Recruit! She will be reached out to privately towards receiving her orientation into her new position on the team. Secondly, congratulations to Zack and Emmy on their respective promotions. Each Staff Member on this list has been placed into a role that Management believes suits their strengths and unique capabilities as an individual. They’ve all been briefed on their new positions and will be ready to go as of the 1st. With Cansky guiding the Moderator Team with the assistance of TNA (as the previous Reviewer Team Leader) on the earlier timezone, Emmy will act as the figurehead for the Mentor Team on the later timezone. Ideally this should mean there is most always at least an Admin around, if not a Manager.

    Once again, congratulations to those promoted. Unfortunately, as much as it saddens me, I also should mention as of this month we lost four of our hard working Staff Members. Three to resignations and one to a demotion. Thank you to @TheCashMan, @Fluffy, @tyscreeper, and @21MisterN for the work you did for the team. Alongside the rest of the changes listed in this announcement, each of these users will receive their new ranks later today.

    Forums Reorganization
    Next up, I’m happy to announce the project @Omega and @Emmymerh have tirelessly been working on. As you may have already noticed, there are number of quality of life changes we’ve made to the Forums as of the time of this post being made! These changes are aimed to reorganize things so that they’re more easily found and that the Forums as a whole are more usable. A full list of the changes we’ve made will be attached below:
    • Re-organized the entire order of the forums
    • Combined “Bans and Rule Breakers” section into “Desteria Relations”
    • Removed Guides Section Explained (Help Guides)
    • Combined Reviewer Support Team and Event Support Team information into Meet the Teams thread.
    • Moved Staff Timeline 2, Meet the Team, Reviewer Team Updates, and Event Team Info into Team Updates located in the Application Section. Staff Waves will now be posted here as well.
    • Deleted original Event Team Info sub-thread from Events thread.
    • Removed Marketplace thread
    • Added an F.A.Q sticky sub-thread to the Questions thread for common questions asked.
    • Deleted all old staff applications that didn’t adhere to the newest format.
    • Added a Team Updates thread under the Applications section that will hold all staff-related updates and information
    • Deleted the Megathread for Suggestions thread in Suggestions section.
    • Reformatted sticky posts under the Report Users thread to make more sense.
    • Added additional information at the top of the “Submit an Appeal” page and removed the unnecessary sticky thread.
    • Removed the Ban Appeal Form from the forums since the Form is located inside the actual thread creation.

    Gen Buckets Patch
    Thanks to the tireless work of our Development Team I’m happy to announce that as of tonight’s reboot we’ll have implemented an automatic preventative measure against gen buckets on the Besen realm during raids. As many of you are aware, we’ve struggled to implement a functional rule to prevent people from using gen buckets (and printer) while they’re being raided. With this release, gen buckets innately should no longer be functional as long as an enemy is within a three-chunk-radius of the gen-bucket user. This, alongside the written changes to the rule, should help to prevent false bans under this rule and support as healthier raiding meta as a whole.

    The APS - Automated Punishment System
    We aren’t done yet! Alongside the changes to the rules we figured it’s time we update how we go about punishing infractions of these rules. This takes us back to the reason we ever implemented a tiered rule system in the first place. This plugin was scheduled for design in mid-2016, but never came to be, until now. As of tonight’s reboot Staff will be using a completely new mute plugin to punish rule breakers for Tier One offenses. Now, upon using the mute command, Staff will be selecting a broken rule from a GUI containing all of the Tier One offenses (customizable by Managers+) - and a mute duration will automatically be applied based on how many offenses the user has accumulated in the past thirty days.

    To clarify, nothing about our rule system is changing, rather this change seeks to increase the consistency with which we distribute punishments for rule breakers. By removing the need for Staff to manually calculate the punishment durations themselves, as this plugin will now do it for them, we’ll see less mistakes and more consistency overall. Be good, or you may find yourself scaling up towards a temp-ban quicker than you realize!

    NOTE: Tier Two and above offenses will still be punished for manually by the Moderator Team. For the most part it is only chat related offenses that will be dealt with automatically.

    Changelog
    Moving on, as you may have noticed, we’ve neglected to post a changelog yesterday. This was because at that point we hadn’t accumulated too many fixes since the early changelog we posted alongside Caden’s release. This will serve as the replacement for the missing changelog post, and as of the upcoming Wednesday, we’ll get back on our regulation schedule. Since the last changelog we’ve made adjustments to the Auction House system to resolve some issues of disappearing items, and we resolved an issue that caused /near to break. Beyond this, the Developers have completed a number of other tasks. Before we can push them to live though, they require a bit more quality assurance testing. You can expect to see the following changes pushed to live within a matter of days, though:
    • All potions (throwable or drinkable), golden apples (both kinds), enderpearls, and bows should will be given innate overrides to /f perms. They cannot be stopped in any land and will always work.
    • Shop GUI issues:
      • /shop
        • Crop Hoppers, and Spawners, should now charge you for and correctly give you 64 if you purchase this many.
      • /resources
        • In the Emporium, on Auren and Besen, we’ve resolved a number of issues regarding inappropriate changes when spawners aren’t truly distributed to the purchasers.
    • Sell Wands and Craft Wands should now work on Trap Chests, and some issues with their durability have been resolved.
    • /f warp is now correctly registered as a previous location by /back. (If you use /f warp, and then teleport elsewhere, /back will correctly take you to the /f warp location instead of that of the location previous to your /f warp)
    • Truce faction land should once again show on the /f map, even if you aren’t standing inside of it.
    • A sell-all option has been added to the /shop GUI. If you middle click, you should sell all of that item in your inventory.
    • Faction Rank Issues
      • Coleaders should now be able to use /f mod, and/or /f promote when given the appropriate permissions.
      • Coleader and Moderator ranks no longer have the ability to override /f owner designated claims. Only the designated owners and faction leaders may edit these claims.
    • Ceira has been changed to Caden in the /claim GUI, which should lead to less ranks being inappropriately lost when old players reclaim their rank on the new realm.
    Again, to clarify, these changes have NOT been pushed to live yet. Rather, they’re fixes that the Developers have completed and that are undergoing testing. They should make their way onto the live servers where applicable very soon!

We apologize to those who may have been cheated out of a handful of votes, and hope that you understand we’ll do everything we can do avoid this sort of situation going forwards in the future.

    Conclusion
    I hope you’re as excited about these changes as we are. The Staff and Management Teams alike have put in a ton of work these last few weeks and months towards really improving the state of the rules, the Staff Team, the Forums, and the network as a whole. More teasers and good news - Spifey is in the process of creating his first video on Caden. It should go live soon. We’re in the process of working with another Content Creator of over double Spifey’s size towards potentially coming on board for a future release. Talks are underway about Desteria’s next release in correspondence with that potential partnership. More bug fixes and content releases are in the works.

    There’ll be no slowing down. There’s nowhere to go but upwards from here. Desteria is lucky to have an incredibly talented and devoted team of people working behind it. You should be proud to be a part of this community, it really is one of a kind, and we’re going to prove it. Thank you all for sticking with us through the rough and hard times - but the time for growth and improvement has come. HYPE.

    Until next time,

    Logic // Management Team

    A lot of cool stuff in here, I'll make sure to read it again tomorrow b/c I'm sure I missed something. (y)
    Tier Two offenses are the most commonly punished offense on the server from my recollection, why are they not covered by the APS?

    The old system where we had 4 punishment tiers was changed. We merged Tier 1 and Tier 2 punishments together, they are now both considered as Tier 1 punishments. The old Tier 3 is now Tier 2, and the old Tier 4 is now Tier 3.

    To go off of what @xTNAx02 said, the old Tier 2 rules are now Tier 1 rules (merged with the original Tier 1 rules).

    Changelog wise, I don't like this. If I wanted to go back to the warp I'd just do the warp. /back should literally just be going back. I could see /back becoming frustrating with the above implemented. Everything else on the changelog was great.
